Job Description
The Bulk Loader / Sampler is responsible for the safe and accurate loading of bulk animal feed into transport vehicles and for collecting product samples for quality control.
The role supports the Quality Control (QC) team by ensuring that all feed products meet quality standards, safety regulations, and company procedures.
This is a hands-on, physically demanding role in a production and feed mill environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
Loading Operations
- Load bulk feed into trucks and transport vehicles
- Ensure correct weight measurements using scales or weighbridge systems
- Follow proper loading procedures to prevent contamination
- Check that vehicles are clean and ready before loading
- Complete and maintain accurate loading records
- Ensure trucks and tankers are properly sealed
Sampling & Quality Control
- Collect samples of:
- Raw materials
- In-process products
- Finished feed
- Label and record samples accurately
- Deliver samples to the QC laboratory for testing
- Maintain clean sampling tools and containers
- Assist with basic quality checks when required
Compliance & Safety
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Adhere to hygiene and contamination control standards
- Comply with all health and safety regulations
- Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Report hazards, faults, or deviations from quality standards
- Participate in safety training and toolbox talks
Housekeeping & Support
- Maintain clean and organized work areas (loading, sampling, lab)
- Assist with equipment cleaning and maintenance
- Help manage the retention store and disposal of old samples
- Support the QC Supervisor and assist in the lab when needed
- Ensure proper handover between shifts
Work Requirements
- Willing to work overtime and holidays
- Ability to work in physically demanding conditions
- Work in varying weather conditions
Requirements
Qualification:
- Grade 12 (Matric)
Experience:
- Experience in a feed mill or production environment (preferred but not always required)
Skills Required
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Good communication skills (verbal and written)
- Ability to follow instructions and procedures
- Basic computer or weighbridge system knowledge
- Good time management and organisational skills
