Job Description
Amari Special School in Welkom is seeking a qualified and registered Social Worker to provide professional social-work services to learners, particularly those experiencing challenging behaviours and developmental or social difficulties.
The successful candidate will conduct assessments, develop individual development plans, provide therapeutic services, support parents and caregivers, connect learners and families with community resources, and work as part of a multidisciplinary team to promote learner development and well-being.
Key Responsibilities
- Interview learners experiencing challenging behaviours.
- Conduct developmental assessments.
- Design and implement Individual Development Plans (IDPs).
- Provide therapeutic social-work services to learners.
- Provide guidance and support to parents.
- Connect learners and families with relevant community resources and services.
- Participate in multidisciplinary and multi-professional teamwork.
- Compile and submit professional reports.
- Maintain an effective and sound administrative system.
- Organise social meetings.
- Assist school management with relevant social-work matters.
- Support the overall social and developmental needs of learners.
Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP) as a Social Worker.
- A relevant 4-year degree in Social Work or an equivalent qualification.
- A valid driver’s licence.
Recommended Skills & Experience

- Experience working as part of multidisciplinary teams.
- Project-management experience.
- Good interpersonal and management skills.
- Willingness to work irregular hours.
- Willingness to travel extensively.
- Knowledge of at least one African language spoken in the region.
- A qualification in Education.
- Registration with SACE.
- Computer literacy.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Knowledge of the National Curriculum Statement (NCS).
- Knowledge of White Paper 6 on inclusive education.
- In-depth knowledge of policies governing education and inclusive education.
- A degree qualification is preferred.
Salary
The position offers a salary of R338,208 – R397,668 per annum, under the Occupational Specific Dispensation (OSD).
The successful candidate’s salary notch will be determined by considering their years of experience after registration with SACSSP.
