    Job Description

    The Central University of Technology, Free State is seeking an experienced Professor: Marketing Management to join the Department of Business Management at the Welkom Campus.

    The main purpose of the position is to develop academic material, lecture in allocated subjects across relevant programmes, conduct high-level research, supervise postgraduate students and contribute to community engagement projects.

    The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate strong academic leadership, an established research profile and extensive experience in marketing management and higher education.

    Key Responsibilities

    Teaching, Learning and Assessment

    • Develop and deliver academic content in relevant marketing subjects.
    • Lecture at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
    • Develop appropriate learning and assessment materials.
    • Supervise Master’s and PhD students.
    • Contribute to teaching and learning within the Department of Business Management.

    Research

    • Conduct and publish research in the field of Marketing Management.
    • Advance knowledge through research outputs.
    • Present research at national and international conferences.
    • Develop and lead research projects.
    • Obtain external research funding.
    • Contribute to the broader research community through academic activities.
    • Participate as an editor, reviewer and/or external examiner.

    Administration and Academic Leadership

    • Provide academic leadership within the department.
    • Participate in departmental and faculty activities.
    • Contribute to academic administration and strategic planning.
    • Support postgraduate research and supervision activities.

    Community Engagement

    • Participate in appropriate community projects.
    • Engage with professional communities and broader society.
    • Contribute academic expertise to relevant community and industry initiatives.

    Requirements

    Applicants must have:

    • A relevant SAQA-approved Doctorate-level qualification, such as a DTech, PhD, D.Ed., NQF Level 10 qualification or equivalent, in the relevant subject field.
    • At least 8 years’ teaching/lecturing experience in the relevant subject field.
    • Evidence of advancing knowledge through:
      • Research outputs.
      • Postgraduate supervision.
      • Presentations at national and international conferences.
    • 4.5 credit units at Associate Professor level or 9.0 cumulative credit units through recognised research outputs such as books, book chapters, accredited journal articles, peer-reviewed conference proceedings or patents.
    • Evidence of postgraduate supervision in line with CUT’s requirements, including the specified completed Master’s and Doctoral supervision combinations or equivalent research-credit requirements.
    • At least 19 cumulative conference presentations/papers, including at least 6 presentations/posters at international conferences.
    • Experience leading or managing an externally funded research project.
    • Involvement as an editor, reviewer and/or external examiner.

    Advantageous Qualifications & Experience

    The following will be advantageous:

    • A strong peer-reviewed publication record in the relevant specialisation.
    • A strong h-index or i10-index.
    • Active participation in relevant research communities.
    • Evidence of securing local and international research grants.
    • A teaching qualification in higher education.
    • An NRF rating.
    • Experience lecturing at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
    • Professional and community engagement.
    • Experience working in a multicultural environment.
    • Relevant industry experience.
    • Professional registration, where applicable.

    Salary & Benefits

    Minimum Total Cost to Company: R1,386,806 per annum

    CUT applies an internal parity model when determining remuneration to ensure equal pay for work of equal value. The final offer may therefore be influenced by the successful candidate’s qualifications and years of relevant experience.
