Job Overview
The Free State Department of Education is looking for a Clinical Nurse Practitioner – Primary Health Care to manage and provide healthcare services at Tswellang Special School in Bloemfontein. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the school clinic, assessing learners’ medical conditions, providing treatment and support, managing medication, and coordinating referrals to healthcare facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and operate the school clinic.
- Assess learners’ medical conditions and provide appropriate care.
- Provide medical care and support to learners.
- Dispense and manage medication.
- Admit learners with serious medical conditions and arrange appropriate care.
- Refer and escort learners to hospitals when necessary.
- Conduct follow-up assessments for learners receiving long-term medication.
- Manage and control ARV medication.
- Handle day-to-day medical problems.
- Provide information and guidance on family planning, HIV/AIDS and other relevant health matters.
Requirements
- Professional Nurse registration with SANC in General Nursing.
- At least 4 years’ appropriate recognisable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with SANC.
- Basic nursing qualification accredited by SANC in terms of Government Notice 425, such as a Diploma/Degree in Nursing, or an equivalent qualification allowing registration as a Professional Nurse.
- A post-basic nursing qualification of at least 1 year in the relevant speciality, accredited by SANC in terms of Government Notice R212.
- A Clinical Nursing Practitioner with Primary Health Care – PGS course will be an added advantage.
- A valid driver’s licence.
- Preference will be given to candidates with a degree qualification.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate should be a registered and experienced Professional Nurse with strong primary healthcare skills and the ability to provide compassionate, reliable medical support to learners in a special-school environment. Strong clinical judgement, medication management and referral coordination skills will be important.
