Job Purpose
This role focuses on managing mechanical maintenance and infrastructure within government facilities.
You will oversee planned and emergency maintenance, ensure compliance with safety standards, manage contractors, and support overall property management related to mechanical systems.
Minimum Requirements
Option 1:
-
3-year tertiary qualification (NQF 6) in Mechanical Engineering
-
Relevant technical experience
Option 2:
-
N3 Certificate + Trade Test (Fitter & Turner / Boiler / Millwright)
-
3–5 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance
Other Requirements:

Valid driver’s license

Computer literacy

Willingness to travel and work irregular hours

Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Technical Work

Handle planned and unplanned mechanical maintenance

Inspect mechanical equipment and installations

Ensure systems comply with required standards
Inspections & Reporting

Inspect leased buildings and compile reports
-
Monitor water meter readings and consumption
-
Prepare technical and monthly reports
Specialised Systems
-
Ensure automatic sprinkler systems comply with standards

Monitor proper use of mechanical equipment
Project & Contract Management
-
Prepare scope of work and cost estimates
-
Assist with tender documentation
-
Verify and certify contractor invoices
Compliance & Property Management
-
Ensure compliance with OHSA and regulations
-
Manage mechanical aspects of property maintenance
-
Support efficient facility operations
Work Environment & Expectations

Government infrastructure and facilities environment

Mix of office work, site inspections, and fieldwork

Interaction with contractors and multiple departments
