    Job Purpose

    The Head for Transport Department C4 is responsible for planning, organizing, managing, and overseeing all transport and dispatch operations within the Bloemfontein Industries division. The role ensures efficient product distribution, fleet management, route planning, driver supervision, logistics coordination, warehouse-related activities, health and safety compliance, and strategic transport support to AVBOB Mutual and the Funeral Division.

    Key Responsibilities

    Transport and Dispatch Management

    • Plan, organize, and oversee all dispatch department operations.
    • Develop and implement new procedures to improve dispatch efficiency.
    • Ensure timely dispatch and delivery of products throughout the region.
    • Coordinate collection of raw materials when required.
    • Manage cross-border transportation and logistics activities.
    • Ensure all products are loaded correctly and delivered according to schedules.
    • Coordinate distribution requirements for Central Stores.

    Logistics Planning and Route Management

    • Plan delivery routes and allocate drivers and transport personnel.
    • Optimize transport schedules to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
    • Monitor vehicle utilization and transport performance.
    • Ensure effective fleet deployment across operational areas.

    Strategic Business Support

    • Prepare transport quotations for AVBOB Mutual transport requirements.
    • Serve as a strategic logistics partner to both AVBOB Mutual and the Funeral Division.
    • Support operational planning through transport and logistics expertise.

    Staff Management and Training

    • Manage and supervise dispatch department personnel.
    • Conduct orientation sessions for newly appointed drivers.
    • Ensure drivers understand:
      • Company policies
      • Safety procedures
      • Operational requirements
    • Provide ongoing driver training and refresher courses.
    • Monitor employee performance and productivity.
    • Foster teamwork and operational discipline.

    Fleet and Operational Control

    • Record and monitor diesel consumption.
    • Manage and analyse tracker reports.
    • Monitor vehicle movements and operational efficiency.
    • Ensure compliance with transport regulations and company procedures.

    Overtime and Cost Control

    • Calculate and verify employee overtime.
    • Control overtime expenditure and ensure compliance with company policies.
    • Assist in managing transport-related operational costs.

    Health and Safety Management

    • Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.
    • Promote safe work practices within the department.
    • Investigate and address safety concerns and incidents.
    • Maintain departmental safety standards and documentation.

    Minimum Requirements

    Educational Requirements

    • Grade 12 (Matric/Std 10).
    • Logistics and/or Distribution Qualification.

    Licensing Requirements

    • Valid Code 14 Driver’s Licence.
    • Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP).

    Computer Skills

    • Basic computer literacy.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

    Experience Requirements

    Essential Experience

    • Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience in:
      • Dispatch operations
      • Logistics management
      • Distribution environments

    Management Experience

    • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Departmental Head or equivalent management position.
