Job Description
This is a specialised accounting role focused on Property, Plant & Equipment (PPE) and capital projects.
You will be responsible for:
- Managing and tracking fixed assets
- Ensuring compliance with IFRS standards (IAS 16, IAS 36)
- Supporting capital investment decisions
- Maintaining accurate financial records across multiple sites
In simple terms: You manage and control the company’s assets (machines, buildings, equipment) financially.
Key Responsibilities
1. Asset Management (Core Function)
- Maintain and reconcile asset registers
- Track assets across multiple sites
- Ensure proper asset classification
2. Capitalisation & Depreciation
- Record asset purchases (capitalisation)
- Calculate and manage depreciation
- Handle asset disposals and write-offs
3. Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Apply IFRS standards (IAS 16, IAS 36)
- Perform monthly asset reconciliations
- Prepare financial reports on assets
4. Capital Expenditure (CAPEX)
- Track and monitor capital projects
- Analyse return on investment (ROI/ROIC)
- Evaluate payback periods for projects
5. Audit & Documentation
- Prepare audit files for fixed assets
- Work with auditors during audits
- Ensure accurate and compliant records
6. Site Support & Collaboration
- Conduct asset verification and site visits
- Work with operations teams on asset usage
- Support asset additions and disposals
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- BCom Degree in Accounting
- Completed SAIPA or SAICA articles
Experience
- Proven experience in fixed assets / PPE accounting
- Experience in a fast-paced environment
Technical Knowledge
- Strong understanding of:
- IFRS
- IAS 16 (Property, Plant & Equipment)
- IAS 36 (Impairment of Assets)
Skills
- Advanced Excel (tracking, modelling, reconciliations)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage large datasets
Additional Requirements
- Fluent in Afrikaans and English
- Valid driver’s license and own vehicle
- Willingness to travel (site visits)
