Job Description
This role involves responding to fire emergencies, rescue operations, and safety incidents to protect lives and property.
You will:
- Perform firefighting and rescue operations
- Provide basic medical care
- Conduct fire prevention and safety training
- Maintain firefighting equipment and readiness
It is a high-risk, physically demanding emergency response role requiring technical skills and quick decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
1. Firefighting & Emergency Response
- Respond to fire and rescue incidents
- Handle hazardous material (Hazmat) situations
- Control and extinguish fires
- Perform emergency rescue operations
2. Medical & Rescue Support
- Provide first aid and basic medical care
- Resuscitate and assist injured persons
- Extricate victims from dangerous situations
3. Equipment & Vehicle Operation
- Operate firefighting equipment and machinery
- Drive emergency vehicles (heavy-duty)
- Maintain and test equipment regularly
4. Fire Prevention & Safety
- Conduct fire safety inspections
- Train staff on fire safety procedures
- Advise on preventative and corrective actions
5. Training & Preparedness
- Participate in drills and simulations
- Maintain physical fitness
- Assist with fire and safety training programmes
6. Administration & Reporting
- Complete incident reports and logs
- Maintain records of daily operations
- Participate in safety committee activities
7. Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety regulations
- Monitor use of protective equipment
- Maintain safety standards in operations
8. Supervisory Duties
- Support and guide junior team members
- Assist in managing shift operations
- Perform basic leadership responsibilities
Minimum Requirements
Education & Certifications
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- IFSAC Accredited
- NFPA 1001 Firefighter II Certification
Experience
- 2–3 years’ firefighting experience
- Experience in emergency response and rescue
Licenses & Fitness
- Valid Code C1 driver’s license with PrDP
- Medically and physically fit
Technical Requirements
- Knowledge of:
- Fire prevention procedures
- Firefighting systems and fire chemistry
- Hazardous materials (Hazmat)
Additional Certifications
- EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) certification
- First Aid (Levels 1–3)
- Basic Ambulance Attendant
