    Job Purpose

    The Lecturer: Intermediate Phase position is responsible for educating and training students, providing academic support and consultations, contributing to academic research and development, and supporting Academic Development Consultants. The role aims to promote student success through effective teaching, learning support, and academic excellence.

    Key Responsibilities

    Teaching and Lecturing

    • Deliver lectures in Intermediate Phase education modules.
    • Facilitate student support workshops and subject-specific tutorials.
    • Prepare learning materials and lesson content.
    • Conduct assessments and mark student work.
    • Ensure teaching is aligned with academic standards and timetables.

    Teaching and Learning Support

    • Assist the Academic Development Coordinator and contract lecturers in developing teaching and learning capacity.
    • Promote and maintain teaching and learning standards on campus.
    • Communicate and teach academic conventions and best practices.
    • Support student academic development and success.

    Academic Coordination

    • Coordinate and facilitate lecturer forums and faculty meetings under the guidance of Academic Development Consultants.
    • Collaborate with librarians to enhance information literacy among students and lecturers.
    • Provide support to Academic Development Consultants as required.

    Research and Development

    • Contribute to academic research and development activities.
    • Assist in building and maintaining a knowledge base within the discipline.
    • Stay informed about developments in education and teaching methodologies.

    Team Support

    • Work collaboratively with academic and support staff.
    • Contribute to departmental and institutional goals.
    • Participate in campus academic initiatives and projects.

    Minimum Requirements

    Qualifications

    • B.Ed Honours Degree in Intermediate Phase Education.
    • Specialisation in Psychology for Educators.

    Experience

    • Minimum 3 years’ school teaching experience in the Intermediate Phase.
    • 1–3 years lecturing experience (advantageous).

    • Knowledge of the South African higher education system and regulatory framework.
    • Understanding of teaching and learning theories and interventions.
    • Ability to provide effective student support services.

    Working Hours

    • Classes are scheduled between 08:00 and 17:00, Monday to Friday.
    • Actual working hours will depend on the modules allocated according to the academic timetable.
