Job Description
The Qualified Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant is responsible for providing pharmaceutical care services within their legal scope of practice and supporting the daily operations of the dispensary.
The role includes dispensing support, stock control, customer service, and administration, ensuring all activities comply with company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and regulatory requirements.
Job Purpose
To deliver safe, accurate, and professional pharmaceutical services, while maintaining high standards of customer care, compliance, and dispensary efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Pharmaceutical Services
- Assist with dispensing medication under supervision
- Perform accurate compounding and preparation of medicines
- Provide basic health advice to customers
- Ensure compliance with pharmaceutical regulations
Stock Control & Administration
- Manage stock levels and stock control processes
- Repack medicines where required
- Maintain accurate records and documentation
- Ensure proper storage and handling of medication
Dispensary Operations
- Handle day-to-day dispensary administration
- Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Ensure accuracy in all dispensing-related activities
- Maintain a clean and organized dispensary environment
Customer Service
- Deliver high standards of customer care
- Assist customers with health-related queries
- Provide a professional and ethical service
Housekeeping & Compliance
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation in the dispensary
- Ensure proper merchandise display
- Adhere to legal and ethical standards set by the
South African Pharmacy Council
Additional Duties
- Perform ad hoc tasks as required by management
- Support overall pharmacy operations
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Matric with Mathematics (Essential)
- Must meet requirements set by the
South African Pharmacy Council
for:- Qualified Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant
Experience:
- Relevant experience as a Pharmacist Assistant (Post Basic)
- Experience in a retail pharmacy environment (advantageous)
Skills & Knowledge
- Knowledge of:
- OTC (Over-the-Counter) medicines
- Health products
- Pharmacy regulations and legal requirements
- Strong customer service skills
- Good numerical and calculation ability
