Job Description
The Learning Practitioner (Instrumentation) is responsible for identifying training needs, developing learning material, and facilitating training and assessments for employees.
The role ensures that employees gain the required technical skills and competencies in line with business needs, legal requirements, and Sasol’s learning and development frameworks.
This position combines technical expertise (Instrumentation trade) with training, coaching, and assessment responsibilities.
Job Purpose
To design, deliver, and manage learning and development programmes that improve workforce competence, ensuring alignment with business strategy, legal standards, and operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Learning & Development
- Identify skills gaps and training needs
- Develop and implement learning interventions and programmes
- Design and update training materials and content
- Align training with business and legal requirements
Training & Facilitation
- Facilitate classroom and on-the-job training
- Support learners in applying skills in the workplace
- Deliver both face-to-face and virtual learning sessions
- Guide learners through practical assignments and projects
Assessment & Moderation
- Conduct assessments in instrumentation and related trades
- Act as assessor and moderator for:
- 18.1 (apprentices)
- 18.2 learners
- Ensure compliance with legislative and quality standards
Performance & Monitoring
- Develop learning plans with timelines
- Monitor learner progress and performance
- Support line managers in evaluating competence
- Identify and address skills gaps
Learner Management
- Supervise learners during training programmes
- Manage attendance and discipline processes
- Ensure learners follow company policies and code of conduct
Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Ensure adherence to Sasol learning frameworks and policies
- Maintain training standards and quality assurance
- Conduct learning evaluations and audits
Additional Responsibilities
- Travel between Sasolburg and Secunda when required
- Perform moderation and assessment duties across sites
Requirements
Qualifications:
- National Senior Certificate (Matric)
- Maintenance Trade Certificate (Instrumentation)
- Occupational Trade Qualification
- Higher OETDP Certificate (Training qualification)
- Accredited Assessor and Moderator certification
- Trade Test Assessor/Moderator (advantageous)
Experience:
- Minimum 4+ years’ experience as an Artisan (Instrumentation or related field)
