    Job Purpose

    The Merchandiser is responsible for ensuring that Dis-Chem merchandising standards are consistently maintained by keeping shelves fully stocked, rotating stock correctly, maintaining attractive product displays, and providing excellent customer service. The role supports efficient store operations while ensuring products are available, correctly priced, and presented according to company standards.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Stock Replenishment

    • Restock merchandise to maximise sales.
    • Ensure products are available on shelves at all times.
    • Replenish stock from the storeroom promptly.
    • Pack and store stock in the correct locations.

    2. Stock Rotation and Control

    • Rotate stock using the First-In, First-Out (FIFO) principle.
    • Monitor product expiry and sell-by dates.
    • Report:
      • Low stock levels.
      • Out-of-stock items.
      • Damaged stock.
      • Expired products.
    • Assist with stock counts and stocktaking.

    3. Merchandising

    • Maintain merchandising displays according to company standards.
    • Ensure shelves are neat, clean, and fully stocked.
    • Build and maintain promotional displays.
    • Ensure products have correct labels and pricing.
    • Report price discrepancies to management.
    • Follow Dis-Chem planograms and store layouts.

    4. Store Maintenance

    • Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the sales floor.
    • Flatten boxes after unpacking stock.
    • Remove packaging materials to designated areas.
    • Maintain storeroom organisation.
    • Ensure merchandise displays remain attractive.

    5. Stock Handling

    • Assist with loading and off-loading stock.
    • Handle merchandise carefully to minimise losses.
    • Ensure products without barcodes are clearly marked.
    • Assist with back shopping activities.

    6. Customer Service

    • Provide friendly and professional customer service.
    • Assist customers with product enquiries.
    • Follow up on out-of-stock requests.
    • Resolve customer stock-related queries.
    • Stay informed about current and new products.

    7. Team Support

    • Assist with the training of new staff members.
    • Work cooperatively with management and colleagues.
    • Support daily retail operations.

    8. Compliance

    • Adhere to:
      • Company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
      • Health and safety regulations.
      • Store policies.
      • Merchandising standards.
    • Wear the correct company uniform and name badge.
    • Report suspicious behaviour involving customers or staff.

    Minimum Requirements

    Essential

    Applicants must have:

    • Grade 12 (Matric).
    • Up to 6 months of retail experience.
    • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office).
    • Willingness and ability to work retail hours.

    Advantageous

    The following will be beneficial:

    • At least 1 year of retail experience.
