Job Overview
Mediclinic Welkom is seeking an experienced Emergency Centre Clinical Leader to provide overall clinical leadership within the emergency centre. The role is responsible for driving safe, high-quality, patient-focused emergency care through effective leadership, data-driven decision-making, resource optimisation, and continuous quality improvement.
The successful candidate will lead emergency centre practitioners, manage clinical risk, and ensure compliance with healthcare legislation, clinical governance frameworks, and Mediclinic clinical standards.
Key Responsibility Areas
Clinical Leadership & Service Delivery

Lead and oversee clinical service delivery in the emergency centre

Ensure safe, effective, and patient-centred emergency care at all times

Act as the clinical authority within the emergency centre
Team Leadership & Development
-
Lead, manage, mentor, and support emergency centre practitioners
-
Foster a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and clinical excellence

Support staffing optimisation and skills development
Quality Improvement & Risk Management

Initiate and drive quality improvement and quality assurance initiatives

Identify, assess, and mitigate clinical and operational risks
-
Ensure compliance with Mediclinic clinical policies and procedures
Data, Audits & Reporting

Integrate clinical data, audits, and reports to identify gaps and develop solutions

Use data-driven insights to support operational and strategic decision-making

Compile and interpret reports to support business and clinical objectives
Strategy & Governance

Actively participate in company strategies, projects, and initiatives

Ensure adherence to national legislation, HPCSA regulations, and ethical standards

Uphold patient rights and professional governance frameworks
Education Requirements
Essential:
-
MB BCh / MB ChB, plus
-
Dip PEC or MSc / MPhil (Emergency Medicine)
Advantageous:
-
MMed Emergency Medicine (FCEM) or
-
MMed Family Medicine (FCFP)
Experience Requirements
Essential:
-
Minimum 3 years’ experience working in a private-sector emergency centre
-
At least 1 year supervisory or managerial experience
Advantageous:

Proven leadership and management involvement in emergency medicine environments

Knowledge of relevant South African healthcare legislation and ethical frameworks

Advanced Life Support (Cardiac, Paediatric, Trauma)
