Job Description
The Department of Employment and Labour is seeking a Principal Inspector: Electrical Engineering to support occupational health and safety compliance within the electrical engineering sector.
The successful candidate will provide technical input into the development and implementation of electrical engineering policies, conduct complex inspections and technical research, and support enforcement activities in accordance with occupational health and safety legislation and departmental standards.
Responsibilities
- Provide input into the development of Electrical Engineering policies.
- Support and ensure the implementation of the Department of Employment and Labour’s Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Strategy.
- Conduct complex electrical engineering inspections in accordance with the approved OHS programme.
- Conduct regular inspections of electrical engineering activities and workplaces.
- Conduct technical research into the latest developments and trends in electrical engineering.
- Provide technical input relating to occupational health and safety.
- Support enforcement actions relating to non-compliance.
- Prepare reports and supporting documentation for legal proceedings.
- Ensure compliance with relevant OHS legislation, standards and departmental policies.
- Apply appropriate technical and analytical approaches when dealing with electrical engineering and OHS matters.
Requirements
- A three-year National Diploma (NQF Level 6) or an undergraduate Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level 7) in Electrical Engineering.
- Four years’ functional experience in electrical services.
- Valid Code B driver’s licence.
- Knowledge of:
- Departmental policies and procedures.
- Batho Pele Principles.
- Public Service Act and Regulations.
- Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act and Regulations.
- OHSAS.
- OHS standards.
- OHS Management Systems.
