Job Description
The National Prosecuting Authority is seeking Senior State Advocates for the Specialised Commercial Crime Unit in Bloemfontein. The successful candidates will be responsible for prosecuting serious, complex and organised commercial crime and corruption cases.
The role requires highly experienced legal practitioners with strong advocacy, legal research and drafting skills. The successful candidate will also provide guidance to investigators, deal with representations and complaints, conduct appeals and reviews, and mentor prosecutors and other stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Conduct the prosecution of serious, complex and organised commercial crime and corruption cases.
- Advise the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) on investigations involving serious, complex and organised commercial crime and corruption.
- Conduct legal research and remain up to date with relevant legal developments.
- Draft charge sheets, indictments and other court documents.
- Represent the State in all relevant courts.
- Present cases in court.
- Lead witnesses and conduct cross-examination.
- Address the court on conviction and sentence.
- Appear in motion proceedings.
- Conduct appeals and reviews.
- Conduct prosecutions on behalf of the State and perform all related duties.
- Perform necessary administrative duties.
- Deal with representations and complaints.
- Mentor and guide prosecutors and stakeholders.
- Conduct training for prosecutors and relevant stakeholders.
- Engage with stakeholders on commercial crime-related matters.
Requirements
- LLB degree.
- For serving prosecutors seeking promotion, an appropriate legal qualification will be considered.
- At least eight years’ post-qualification legal experience, specifically in criminal litigation.
- Right of appearance as contemplated in Section 25(2) of the NPA Act, 32 of 1998.
- Admission as an advocate or attorney will be an added advantage.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Strong computer skills.
