Job Overview
The Garden Worker is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, hygiene, and appearance of SAPS facilities and surrounding gardens. The role includes routine cleaning, gardening, and providing support with stores, equipment, and stock to ensure a safe and well-maintained working environment.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidates will:
- Maintain cleanliness in and around SAPS premises.
- Perform routine cleaning of buildings and surrounding areas.
- Provide gardening and grounds maintenance services.
- Assist with store, stock, and equipment support.
- Ensure a clean, safe, and hygienic workplace.
- Carry out general maintenance duties as assigned.
- Follow Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) procedures.
- Work additional hours when operational requirements demand.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be a South African citizen.
- Be proficient in at least two official languages, one of which must be English.
- Display competency in the post-specific functions of the position.
- Be willing to work extended hours when required.
Advantageous Qualification
- Grade 10 qualification will serve as an added advantage.
Knowledge, Skills and Competencies
Applicants should possess:
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) protocols.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
- Good verbal communication skills.
- Ability to read and write.
- Ability to interact professionally with colleagues and members of the public.
- Ability to operate basic gardening tools, machines, and equipment.
- Good physical fitness for manual outdoor work.
- Reliability and attention to detail.
Working Conditions
Successful candidates should be prepared to:
- Perform outdoor gardening and grounds maintenance duties.
- Carry out manual labour in varying weather conditions.
- Operate basic gardening equipment safely.
- Work overtime or extended hours when operationally required.
Salary and Benefits
- Salary: R144 024 per annum (Salary Level 2)
- Government employment benefits will apply according to the applicable Public Service regulations.
