This role focuses on academic support and student success initiatives, specifically within tutorial programmes.
You will coordinate, manage, and improve teaching and learning support systems, working closely with lecturers, tutors, and the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL). The position plays a key role in enhancing student performance, engagement, and employability through structured academic interventions.
Job Description
The Officer will lead and coordinate tutorial support programmes, ensuring effective delivery, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
The role includes managing tutors, overseeing academic support initiatives, handling administrative and financial processes, and contributing to research and data-driven improvements in teaching and learning.
Key Responsibilities
Project Coordination & Administration
- Lead and implement tutorial support programmes
- Coordinate faculty tutorial schedules and activities
- Monitor and evaluate programme effectiveness
- Build relationships with lecturers and academic staff
- Track tutor performance and development
- Manage academic support processes and systems
Financial Management
- Manage tutorial budgets
- Oversee tutor payments and salary tracking
- Provide monthly financial reports
Research & Reporting
- Contribute to teaching and learning research
- Analyse data and provide insights on student development
- Measure impact of academic support initiatives
Collaboration
- Work with CTL on student success and employability initiatives
- Support staff development programmes
- Collaborate across faculties and departments
Training & Development
- Facilitate training and development for tutors
- Identify skills gaps and organise workshops
- Develop training materials with the A_STEP team
Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree / Advanced Diploma / BTech / Postgraduate Certificate (NQF Level 7)
- At least 2 years’ experience in academic support
- At least 1 year experience using Learning Management Systems (LMS)
Recommended:
- Honours Degree / Postgraduate Diploma (NQF Level 8)
- Experience in programme coordination (academic support)
- Experience in:
- Tutoring, mentoring, facilitating, or lecturing
- Knowledge of:
- Data management
- Action research
