    Job Description

    The Lecturer: Bachelor of Hospitality Management is responsible for delivering quality teaching and learning, supporting student success, preparing and administering assessments, monitoring student performance, and contributing to academic excellence within the Hospitality and Tourism programmes.

    The successful candidate will facilitate learning, identify and support at-risk students, participate in academic development activities, and assist in maintaining high academic standards.

    Key Responsibilities

    Teaching and Learning

    • Present lectures according to module requirements and academic schedules.
    • Deliver engaging and effective classroom instruction.
    • Facilitate student learning using appropriate teaching methods.
    • Ensure coverage of prescribed curriculum content.

    Student Support

    • Identify and support students who are academically at risk.
    • Provide academic guidance and consultation to students.
    • Monitor attendance, participation, and academic progress.
    • Assist students in achieving learning outcomes.

    Assessment and Moderation

    • Prepare students for assessments and examinations.
    • Develop assessments according to academic guidelines.
    • Mark and provide constructive feedback on assessments.
    • Monitor assessment submissions and escalate concerns where necessary.

    Learning Management Systems

    • Update and manage online learning platforms.
    • Upload academic resources and learning materials.
    • Maintain accurate student records and academic information.
    • Communicate academic updates and feedback electronically.

    Academic Administration

    • Track module progress according to academic pacers.
    • Maintain assessment records and student performance data.
    • Participate in faculty and academic meetings.
    • Assist with academic quality assurance processes.

    Academic Performance Monitoring

    • Analyse module results and student performance trends.
    • Identify underperforming modules and students.
    • Recommend interventions to improve academic outcomes.
    • Support programme improvement initiatives.

    Professional Development

    • Participate in academic training and development programmes.
    • Stay current with developments in hospitality and tourism education.
    • Contribute to improving teaching and learning practices.
    • Maintain professional academic standing.

    Minimum Requirements

    Qualifications

    • BTech in Hospitality Management.
    • Postgraduate Qualification or Honours Degree in:
      • Hospitality Management, or
      • Tourism Management (with Hospitality-related subjects completed).
    • Must possess a qualification at least one NQF level higher than the qualification being taught.
    • Academic transcript required.

    Experience

    • 2 to 3 years lecturing or formal tutoring experience.
    • Industry experience in Hospitality or Tourism (1 to 3 years) will be advantageous.

    Required Knowledge

    Working Hours

    • Classes are scheduled between 08:00 and 17:00, Monday to Friday.
