Job Overview
The Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT) is seeking a Project Engineer for its Product Development Technology Station (PDTS) to assist in developing medical devices.
The role involves managing day-to-day operations of PDTS projects, ensuring products are designed and manufactured in accordance with ISO 9001 quality management standards, and supporting innovation, project execution, and team coordination.
Main Purpose of the Role
To support the technology station in medical product development by applying mechanical engineering expertise, project management skills, and quality standards, ensuring products meet technical and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Medical Product Development
-
Assist in the design, development, and testing of medical devices.

Ensure adherence to ISO 9001 quality management requirements.

Support innovation and prototyping activities.
Project & Financial Management
-
Manage project schedules, timelines, and budgets.

Record project files and maintain documentation.

Monitor project progress and ensure timely completion.
Quality & Risk Management
-
Apply ISO quality management standards to all product development activities.

Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks.

Ensure compliance with regulatory and safety standards.
Marketing, Liaison & Stakeholder Management
-
Communicate project progress with internal and external stakeholders.

Support marketing initiatives for technology station outputs.
Intern & Team Support

Assist in mentoring interns and junior staff.

Support the day-to-day running of the PDTS.
Administration
-
Manage timesheets and record-keeping.

Maintain project documentation accurately.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
-
B.Tech or equivalent degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Experience
-
4 years’ experience in mechanical engineering.
-
3 years’ experience in medical product development.
-
1 year experience with ISO quality management systems.
Desired Qualifications & Experience
-
M.Tech or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering.
-
5 years’ experience in medical product development.
-
Registration as Professional Technologist with ECSA.
-
2 years’ experience with ISO quality management systems.
Remuneration

Total Cost to Company: R756 517 per annum.
