Job Overview
The Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT) invites applications for two Lecturer positions within the Department of Design and Studio Art, Faculty of Humanities.
The successful candidates will be responsible for developing academic material, delivering lectures, assessing students, conducting research, and contributing to community engagement initiatives within the Fashion Design and Studio Art disciplines.
Main Purpose of the Role
To develop and deliver high-quality academic content in allocated subject areas, contribute to research and innovation, and participate in academic administration and community service in alignment with the university’s academic strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching, Learning & Assessment

Develop and present lectures in allocated subjects.
-
Facilitate learning in undergraduate and/or postgraduate programmes.

Conduct student assessments and evaluations.
-
Provide academic support and mentorship to students.
Research & Innovation
-
Conduct and publish research within the relevant field.
-
Contribute to innovation and creative outputs.
-
Engage in scholarly and academic development activities.
Administration & Academic Management
-
Participate in departmental administration.
-
Contribute to curriculum development and quality assurance.
-
Assist with control and organisation of academic programmes.
Community Engagement
-
Execute and participate in community service projects.

Build industry partnerships relevant to the discipline.
Subject Fields
Candidates must have expertise in one or more of the following:

Fashion Illustration

Patternmaking
-
Sewing and Garment Construction

Trend Forecasting
-
Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign)
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
-
A relevant Master’s degree (MA / MTech / MSc / NQF Level 9 or equivalent) in Fashion Design or a related field.
Experience
-
At least 2 years’ teaching, lecturing, or relevant industry experience.
Additional Requirements

A professional portfolio showcasing design skills and achievements must be submitted with the application.
Desired Qualifications & Experience

Evidence of progress towards a Doctoral degree in Fashion Design or a related field.

Recognised publications, research, innovation, or creative outputs.
Remuneration

Total Cost to Company: R777 297 per annum.
