The Environmental Officer Control (Grade A) will play a pivotal role in developing, implementing, and monitoring climate change policies, strategies, and programmes in the Free State Province. This role requires expertise in environmental science, policy frameworks, and climate change response measures, as well as strong stakeholder engagement skills.

Responsibilities:

Support the development and implementation of climate change-related policies, strategies, and plans.

Implement and monitor climate change response programmes.

Track, update, and report on climate change action initiatives.

Support municipalities and sector departments in developing climate change response measures.

Coordinate climate change forums and stakeholder engagements.

Facilitate just transition plans and renewable energy projects in collaboration with partners.

Build partnerships with public and private sectors to address climate change impacts.

Drive awareness, capacity building, and training at municipal and community levels.

Manage divisional resources (human, financial, and assets).
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Natural/Environmental Sciences, Environmental Management, Geography, Climate Change, or Renewable Energy Studies.

Minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience in climate change or related field.

Knowledge of climate change legislation, frameworks, and policies (including the Climate Change Act).

Experience in policy development and implementation.

Strong communication, planning, coordination, and reporting skills.

Good interpersonal skills and stakeholder engagement abilities.

Computer literacy.

Valid driver’s license.
Benefits:

Salary: R612 480 – R700 620 per annum (OSD package), determined in line with the regulatory framework and relevant experience.
