Job Overview:
Grain Field Chickens, part of the VKB Group, seeks a Storeman to join its Procurement Department at the Reitz abattoir. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the buying, stores, and procurement functions, ensuring parts, consumables, and materials are efficiently managed, properly recorded, and aligned with the organization’s cost, safety, and quality standards. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with hands-on experience in inventory and parts management within a manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:

Draw and issue required stock while maintaining accurate Bin Cards and inventory records.

Administer and file all paperwork and delivery notes according to company procedures.

Participate in stock counts and ensure bins are correctly labeled and maintained.

Apply FIFO and LIFO stock rotation principles to prevent expiry or damage of goods.

Maintain a clean, safe, and organized store area in compliance with SHEQ standards.

Manage registers for chemicals, hand tools, and lifting equipment, ensuring accurate booking in/out.

Safeguard company assets and maintain strict control over parts and consumables.

Collaborate with the procurement and maintenance teams to ensure stock availability.

Perform any other related duties as required by line management.
Minimum Requirements:

Grade 12 / NQF Level 4 qualification.

A relevant Procurement or Parts Management qualification (advantageous).

Minimum 5 years’ experience as a parts buyer or in a similar storeman role within manufacturing.

Technical or mechanical background preferred.

Solid understanding of Health & Safety regulations.

Willingness to work long hours and weekends when required.
Skills and Competencies:

Strong organizational and time-management skills.

Ability to work effectively under pressure.

Computer literacy (Basic MS Word and Excel).

Knowledge of manufacturing parts and equipment technology.

Experience handling HAZMAT materials.

Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Understanding of stock control processes and inventory best practices.
