The Director: Biodiversity Management & Conservation will provide scientific leadership and oversight in biodiversity research, planning, and conservation management. The role involves leading a team of biodiversity experts, supporting protected area management, and ensuring compliance with biodiversity-related legislation. The successful candidate will also represent the Department at national and international scientific platforms and oversee biodiversity research and permitting processes.

Requirements:
-
A recognised Bachelor’s Degree (NQF 7) in Natural Sciences with majors in Botany/Zoology or related field (SAQA recognised).
-
Postgraduate qualification in Botany or Zoology will be an added advantage.
-
5 years of experience at middle/senior managerial level.
-
7+ years experience in Biodiversity planning and research.
-
In-depth knowledge of biodiversity and protected areas legislation (national, provincial, local).
-
Knowledge of Project Management will be an advantage.
-
Computer literacy and a valid driver’s licence.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Lead a team that provides scientific support to protected areas managed by the Department.

Manage a team of Biodiversity Experts employed by the Department.

Represent the Department in national and international scientific bodies.

Provide scientific and technical support to the Biodiversity Permit Office.
-
Drive priority biodiversity research projects.
-
Manage the human, financial, and asset resources of the Directorate.
