Main Purpose of the Job:
To provide strategic executive leadership in advancing the University’s long-term vision, driving institutional transformation, internationalisation, and stakeholder engagement. The role ensures alignment with UFS Vision 130 and the national higher education priorities, while building a globally competitive, socially responsive, and inclusive institution.
Key Responsibilities / Main Tasks:
Strategic Leadership & Initiatives
Lead and manage the UFS Strategic Plan, aligning with Vision 130 and Council goals.
Oversee institutional performance management, scenario planning, and risk management.
Drive data-informed decision-making through institutional analytics.
Manage the Institutional Project Management Office and Strategic Fund initiatives.
Internationalisation & Global Engagement
Develop and execute a comprehensive internationalisation strategy.
Foster partnerships with international universities, networks, and agencies.
Oversee international student recruitment, mobility, and academic exchanges.
Diversity, Equity & Transformation
Ensure institutional compliance with the Employment Equity Act and transformation goals.
Promote inclusivity and a culture of respect across all university domains.
Lead equity and diversity strategies for academic and support environments.
Governance & Policy Leadership
Serve on Council, Senate, and other executive committees.
Oversee policy development and compliance on transformation and internationalisation.
Maintain alignment with national legislation and internal governance structures.
Stakeholder Engagement
Strengthen ties with government, higher education bodies (e.g., DHET, CHE, USAf), and funders.
Build donor relationships and secure resources for university initiatives.
Collaborate with communities, NGOs, and industry for enhanced societal impact.
Minimum Requirements:
Doctoral degree (PhD/Professional Doctorate, NQF Level 10).
At least 10 years in senior academic leadership (e.g., DVC, Executive Dean, or equivalent).
Deep understanding of national and international higher education systems, governance, and legislation.
Proven experience in strategic planning and institutional transformation.
Strong record of stakeholder engagement and international collaboration.
Track record in teaching, research, and postgraduate supervision; preferably at Professor level.
Preferred Qualification (Advantageous):
MBA or formal qualification in Executive Management or Strategy.
