Job Description
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is seeking an experienced senior legal professional to serve as Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions in Bloemfontein.
The successful candidate will provide high-level legal and operational leadership within the Money Laundering Component, including oversight of prosecution decisions, legal research and opinions, operational performance, governance, stakeholder engagement and strategic implementation.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- An LLB degree.
- For serving prosecutors seeking promotion, any appropriate legal qualification.
- At least 10 years’ post-qualification experience in civil and/or criminal litigation.
- At least 5 years’ experience in criminal procedure and POCA legislation.
- Right of appearance as contemplated in Section 25(2) of the NPA Act, 32 of 1998.
- Demonstrable competency in acting independently, professionally, accountably and with credibility.
- A valid driver’s licence.

Key Responsibilities
Legal and Prosecution Oversight
- Exercise oversight over decisions to prosecute.
- Provide advice and reports to the Head of the Organised Crime Component.
- Review and interpret documents developed by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
- Provide guidance and opinions to the National Prosecutions Service on FATF-related documents.
- Prepare high-level, well-researched legal opinions and reports.
Governance and Operations
- Manage and direct governance and operations within the Money Laundering Component.
- Analyse, review and monitor the operational performance of regional offices.
- Identify operational deficiencies and monitor progress against strategic objectives and annual targets.
- Develop performance and service-delivery improvement plans where required.
- Implement appropriate interventions to address operational challenges.
- Monitor and review organisational strategy and operations.
- Oversee the development and implementation of employee performance-management systems.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Ensure action plans are implemented to promote effective stakeholder and partner engagement.
- Arrange and coordinate internal and external meetings.
- Participate in stakeholder meetings.
- Engage regularly with relevant stakeholders to support the mandate of the Money Laundering Component.
Management and Reporting
- Prepare presentations for the Executive Committee and Management Committee.
- Identify employee training and development gaps.
- Communicate identified training needs to the Head of the Training Component.
- Support the achievement of strategic objectives and operational targets.
