Job Overview

Botshabelo District Hospital is seeking a Clinical Programme Coordinator: Infection Prevention Control (IPC) to coordinate and monitor infection prevention and control programmes within the hospital.

The successful candidate will support the implementation of national and provincial IPC policies, conduct infection surveillance, coordinate research and monitoring activities, investigate outbreaks and promote compliance with infection prevention standards.

Minimum Requirements

Basic R425 nursing qualification, such as a Diploma/Degree in Nursing, allowing registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse; or
4-year Bachelor Degree in Nursing (R174); or
3-year Diploma in General Nursing (R171).
Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse or General Nurse.
Minimum 7 years’ appropriate/recognisable nursing experience after registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse in General Nursing.
Current SANC registration for 2026/2027.
Infection Prevention and Control Nursing qualification will be an advantage.

Previous experience in Infection Prevention and Control.
Relevant qualification in Infection Prevention and Control.

Main Responsibilities

Infection Prevention & Control Programme

Establish systems to monitor implementation of National Department of Health and Free State Department of Health IPC policies and guidelines.
Facilitate the review of existing IPC protocols and Standard Operating Procedures.
Support the development and implementation of effective IPC systems.
Establish systems for early identification and isolation of confirmed and suspected infectious diseases.

Research, Surveillance & Monitoring

Facilitate IPC research activities.
Conduct infection surveillance.
Undertake routine data collection and analysis.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of IPC programmes.
Provide management with reports and recommendations for remedial interventions.
Compile monthly, quarterly and annual IPC reports.

Infection & Outbreak Management

Ensure nosocomial infections are properly investigated and reported.
Support investigations of disease outbreaks.
Monitor quality-improvement strategies following infections and outbreaks.
Promote compliance with infection prevention standards.

Planning & Governance

Participate in provincial and cluster IPC committee structures.
Revive and support the institutional Infection Prevention and Control Committee.
Contribute to the development of the IPC Strategic Plan.
Develop an IPC Operational Plan aligned with the Free State Department of Health’s strategic objectives.

Resources & Compliance

Monitor the availability of supplies required for IPC programmes.
Collaborate with managers to develop strategies that improve IPC compliance.
Monitor implementation of IPC interventions and standards.

Training & Staff Management

Provide IPC-related training to staff.
Manage staff to support effective departmental functioning.
Promote awareness and compliance with infection prevention procedures.

Salary & Benefits
