Duties and Responsibilities:
As a Cleaner, the successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining a clean and hygienic environment within the residences and accommodation areas of the Housing and Residence Affairs department. The role includes a variety of essential cleaning tasks, with an emphasis on following safety and cleaning protocols. Some of the core responsibilities of the Cleaner include:

General Cleaning: The primary duty involves cleaning the university’s residences and other accommodation areas.

Colour-Coding System: The candidate will be expected to clean according to the All-Care Colour-Coding System, a well-established procedure for using specific detergents and cleaning equipment for different areas.

Equipment Management: The cleaner is responsible for maintaining all issued cleaning equipment in a hygienic state. Any faulty equipment should be reported to the Housekeeping Manager.

Health and Safety Compliance: The position requires the cleaner to adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures, ensuring that the necessary protective gear is worn at all times.

Conference Support: The cleaner will assist in cleaning during conferences, including making up beds and changing linen after events.

Additional Duties: The candidate will be required to attend staff meetings, maintain restrooms and storerooms in a tidy state, and be available for weekend work when necessary, particularly during long weekends and conferences.
Requirements:
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following inherent requirements:

Educational Requirement: A minimum of Grade 10 on the NQF level 2.

Relevant Experience: Previous experience in cleaning, particularly in line with the duties outlined, will be an advantage.
Preferred Qualifications:

Colour-Coding Cleaning Experience: A minimum of two years’ experience working with a colour-coding cleaning system is highly recommended.

Colour-Coding Cleaning System Certificate: Possession of a certificate in colour-coding cleaning will be an added benefit.
