    The Chief Director: Small Business Development will provide strategic leadership in advancing entrepreneurship and enterprise growth in the Free State. This role focuses on supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and cooperatives, ensuring they have access to markets, funding opportunities, and government procurement programmes. The successful candidate will manage provincial service centres, build partnerships with the private sector, and shape policies that create a thriving business environment.

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s Degree (NQF 7) in Economics, Business Administration, or related field, recognised by SAQA.

    • 5 years of experience at a senior managerial level.

    • 7+ years of experience in the economic development environment.

    • Knowledge of relevant prescripts and legal frameworks in the Public Service.

    • Computer literacy and a valid driver’s licence.

    Additional requirement for SMS posts:

    • Successful completion of the NSG Senior Management Pre-Entry Programme (certificate must be submitted before appointment).

    Key Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Manage and oversee Service Centres across the province.

    • Promote and coordinate enterprise development and support programmes.

    • Facilitate market access for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and cooperatives.

    • Provide oversight to ensure MSMEs access enterprise & supplier development programmes in partnership with the private sector.

    • Create an enabling environment for MSMEs to access business development support services.

    • Develop and implement policies to ensure MSMEs benefit from state procurement opportunities.

    • Oversee the development of the Strategic Plan and APP of the Chief Directorate.

    • Manage the human, financial, and asset resources of the Chief Directorate.
