As part of its commitment to good governance and public accountability, the Department aims to strengthen oversight through an independent Audit Committee. This initiative supports the department’s goal of promoting effective service delivery, transparency, and compliance within public sector frameworks.

    Responsibilities:

    • Advise the Accounting Officer in accordance with the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA)

    • Oversee governance, risk management, and internal control systems

    • Review and evaluate internal and external audit findings and ensure proper management response

    • Assess the quality of financial reporting and the integrity of information systems

    • Ensure coordination and completeness of audit coverage

    • Examine and review the Department’s annual financial statements

    • Promote compliance with applicable regulations and enhance the control environment

    • Support the Department in improving service delivery in areas such as road safety, transport, and community policing

    Qualifications:

    • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in both public and private sectors

    • Postgraduate degree or equivalent in fields such as:

      • Accounting

      • Internal Auditing

      • Risk Management

      • Information Technology

      • Civil Engineering

      • Law

      • Transport & Logistics

    • Professional designation and membership in a relevant professional body

    • Previous experience serving on audit or similar committees

    • Independent of government employment

    • Strong technical knowledge of PFMA, Treasury Regulations, and departmental frameworks

    • Objectivity and healthy skepticism

    • Commitment to public service values and ethical oversight

    • Ability to facilitate effective discussions and offer constructive insights

    Compensation:

    • Chairperson: R2,265.00/hour for audit sittings; R556.00/hour for ad-hoc meetings

    • Members: R1,838.00/hour for audit sittings; R337.00/hour for ad-hoc meetings

    • Travel and subsistence allowances paid in line with departmental guidelines
