    The University of the Free State (UFS) has announced a vacancy for the position of Assistant Officer: Data Capturer at its Qwaqwa Campus, under the Health Centre within Student Affairs. This contract-based role is for a duration of one year, at post level 13. The university seeks a semi-skilled professional to assist with data capturing and administrative duties related to health and wellness programs.

    Assistant Officer Key Responsibilities

    The successful candidate will be responsible for data capturing and management within the Health Centre, ensuring the accurate recording of student health and wellness information. Primary duties include:

    • Data Entry & Maintenance

      • Accurately entering information into databases, spreadsheets, and software systems.
      • Updating records regularly to keep data comprehensive and current.
      • Conducting regular data audits to identify errors or discrepancies.
    • Reporting & Analysis

      • Generating routine and ad-hoc reports to support decision-making.
      • Capturing, analyzing, and presenting data in the form of graphs and reports.
      • Writing detailed reports for the Campus Health and HIV Office.
      • Compiling monthly reports on various health and wellness indicators, such as:
        • Number of students tested for HIV.
        • Number of students screened for tuberculosis (TB).
        • Participation statistics from peer-to-peer discussions on topics like mental health, substance abuse, and LGBTQI support.
        • Number of students receiving mental health and GBV awareness questionnaires.
    • Administrative & Support Duties

      • Assisting the Health and Wellness Division with coordination of meetings, training sessions, and workshops.
      • Providing administrative support as required by the line manager.
      • Scheduling appointments and liaising with patients to determine suitable times.
      • Ensuring accurate electronic capturing of patient data.

    Minimum Requirements

    To be considered for the Assistant Officer position, candidates must meet the following inherent job requirements:

    • Educational Qualification:

      • A Grade 12 certificate (NQF Level 4).
    • Experience:

      • A minimum of one (1) year of experience in data capturing and report writing.

    Additional Recommendations

    The university encourages applicants with knowledge of Department of Health programs, such as Tier.net, as this would be beneficial for handling health-related data systems.

    Employment Conditions

    • Assumption of Duties: As soon as possible.
    • Contract Duration: One-year fixed term appointment.
    • Salary Range: R 231,699.90 – R 388,426.59 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.
