    The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) is seeking to appoint a highly skilled and experienced truck driver to join its Small Grain Division (ARC-SG) in Bethlehem, Free State. This is a permanent position, and the selected candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth transportation of agricultural machinery as part of the National Cultivar Evaluation Program.

    Job Overview

    The appointed truck driver will be responsible for the transportation of key farming equipment, including a harvester, crop sprayer, and tractor with a planter. In addition to driving responsibilities, the individual will also assist in daily operational activities, ensuring timely and correct deliveries. The role requires strict adherence to safety regulations, proper maintenance of vehicle records, and active participation in machinery calibration.

    Key Responsibilities

    The successful candidate will be expected to:

    • Transport harvesters, crop sprayers, tractors, and planters to designated locations.
    • Assist in daily operational tasks within the research facility.
    • Maintain accurate kilometer and time records for all deliveries.
    • Assist in the calibration of combines, crop sprayers, and planters for optimal performance.
    • Ensure the truck is well-maintained, clean, and in good working condition.
    • Comply with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations.
    • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor as needed.

    Qualifications and Experience Required

    To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

    • A Grade 12 (Matric) qualification with three (3) years of relevant experience, OR
    • A Grade 10 qualification with eight (8) years of relevant experience, OR
    • A minimum of twenty (20) years of relevant work experience.
    • A valid South African Code 10 driver’s license.
    • At least five (5) years of experience in an agricultural environment would be an added advantage.
    • Good verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold staff confidence.
    • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
