Job Description
The Teaching Experience Supervisor will provide guidance, support and assessment to student teachers during their teaching practice placements. The role is focused on helping pre-service teachers integrate theoretical knowledge with practical classroom experience and develop the professional skills, knowledge and attitudes required to succeed as teachers in South African schools.
The successful candidate will observe and assess student teachers, provide constructive feedback, support their professional development and assist them in addressing challenges encountered during their teaching experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Observe and evaluate student teachers during teaching practice in appropriate classroom settings.
- Provide constructive and relevant feedback following observations and assessments.
- Help student teachers reflect on their teaching performance.
- Identify student teachers’ strengths and areas requiring improvement.
- Assist student teachers in achieving teaching and learning objectives.
- Recommend appropriate teaching methods, strategies and alternative approaches where improvement is required.
- Provide oral and written feedback after each formal observation.
- Support student teachers in addressing teaching-related challenges.
- Provide honest, objective and professional evaluations of student teachers’ progress.
- Guide student teachers in developing effective professional teaching practices.
- Support the successful integration of theory and practical teaching experience.
Requirements
Qualifications
- B.Ed. Honours degree or Postgraduate Diploma in Education (NQF Level 8).
- Undergraduate or postgraduate qualification must include a Foundation Phase focus.
- Registration with SACE (South African Council for Educators).
Teaching Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years’ teaching experience in the Foundation Phase.
Other Requirements
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Own reliable vehicle.
- Must have no criminal record.
