    Job Description

    The Office of the Chief Justice is seeking a Statistical Officer to manage and administer statistical data relating to court processes at the Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein.

    The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting, capturing, verifying, analysing and reporting court-related statistical information. The position also involves maintaining databases, preparing monthly, quarterly and annual statistics, supporting audits and providing training and information sessions where required.

    The role requires strong numerical and analytical abilities, excellent attention to detail and the ability to work with large amounts of information accurately and efficiently.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Manage and administer data collection relating to court processes.
    • Identify the statistical data required for reporting purposes.
    • Collect and collate data using standardised reporting tools.
    • Ensure that collected data is accurate and complete.
    • Verify and clean data before processing.
    • Analyse statistical information and present it in the required format.
    • Maintain databases containing relevant datasets.
    • Capture data into reporting tools.
    • Liaise with relevant sources of information to obtain required data.
    • Follow up on outstanding or incomplete information.
    • Identify training needs relating to statistical processes.
    • Provide information sessions and training where required.
    • Maintain and analyse the court’s:
      • Monthly statistics
      • Quarterly statistics
      • Annual statistics
    • Ensure statistics are submitted within the required timeframes.
    • Manage court files in accordance with relevant codes and legislation.
    • Prepare and present cases and documentation for audit purposes.
    • Perform administrative and reporting functions related to statistical information.
    • Manage the staff component and perform related supervisory functions.

    Requirements

    Qualification

    • National Diploma in one of the following:
      • Statistics
      • Mathematics
      • Economics
      • Econometrics
    • Or an equivalent qualification at NQF Level 6, recognised by SAQA.

    Experience

    • Minimum 2 years’ relevant experience in a statistical environment.
    • Experience working in a court environment will be an added advantage.

    Knowledge Required

    • Knowledge and understanding of the legislative framework governing the Public Service.
    • Knowledge of relevant government policies and strategies.
    • Understanding of statistical data management and reporting processes.
    • Knowledge of data collection, verification and analysis procedures.
