    About the Opportunity

    The University of the Free State (UFS) Business School invites qualified academics and professionals to apply for a permanent position focused on Agrifood Market Innovation. This role is instrumental in shaping the next generation of agribusiness leaders while contributing to cutting-edge research and strategic industry engagement.

    This role is open at three academic levels—Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, or Professor—depending on your experience and credentials.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Deliver dynamic, high-impact teaching at undergrad, postgrad, and executive education levels.

    • Conduct and publish nationally and internationally recognised research in agrifood market innovation.

    • Supervise Master’s and PhD students to completion.

    • Collaborate or lead interdisciplinary research projects.

    • Develop and enhance curriculum for formal and executive education.

    • Build strong industry ties through consulting, contract research, and thought leadership.

    • Generate third-stream income to support the Business School’s goals.

    • Contribute strategically to the school’s long-term vision and leadership.

    Requirements by Level

    🔹 Senior Lecturer

    • PhD (NQF Level 10) in Business Administration, Business Management, Agricultural Economics, or a related field, with an agrifood market focus.

    • Experience in teaching, supervising master’s students, and presenting at national scholarly events.

    • Recognised research record and potential for an NRF rating.

    🔹 Associate Professor

    • All Senior Lecturer requirements, plus:

    • Experience examining postgraduate students.

    • Editorial board experience (national journals).

    • Recognised research leadership, NRF C3 rating (or equivalent), and industry experience.

    • Proven third-stream income generation.

    🔹 Professor

    • All Associate Professor requirements, plus:

    • Editorial board experience (international/ISI/IBSS journals).

    • Extensive research portfolio over the past 8 years.

    • NRF C1 or C2 rating (or equivalent).

    • Proven supervision of PhD candidates.

    • Keynote speaker experience and public engagement capabilities.

    Preferred (Bonus) Requirements

    • 3+ years’ experience in agrifood market innovation.

    • Experience lecturing in Higher Education.

    • Practical experience in agribusiness finance and data analytics (SPSS, AMOS, PLS).

    • Strong industry engagement background.
