    OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION:

    To install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair refrigeration systems in both warehouse and vehicle environments, ensuring optimal cold chain operations for Vector Logistics. The role is critical in supporting continuous operations through preventative maintenance and adherence to safety standards.

    KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Install, service, and repair refrigeration systems in distribution centres and refrigerated trucks.

    • Perform routine maintenance and emergency repairs to ensure minimal downtime.

    • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues in refrigeration units.

    • Charge refrigerants, conduct leak tests, and commission systems to full operational capacity.

    • Maintain detailed records of maintenance work, refrigerant usage, and safety compliance.

    • Ensure all tasks are completed in line with SHEQ and other occupational health and safety standards.

    • Supervise and mentor junior technical staff or assistants.

    • Manage and requisition spares, ensuring equipment and parts are available as needed.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (INHERENT REQUIREMENTS):

    • Education: Matric (Grade 12) plus a recognised apprenticeship in industrial refrigeration.

    • Certification: Registered as an Authorised Refrigeration Practitioner (Category B – Ammonia & Transport Refrigeration).

    • Experience: Minimum 3 years working with industrial/truck refrigeration systems.

    • Licence: Valid Code EB driver’s licence.

    RECOMMENDATIONS / PREFERRED CRITERIA:

    • Familiarity with ammonia-based systems.

    • Strong understanding of refrigeration standards, codes, and regulatory compliance.

    • Skilled in using diagnostic tools and performing precise fault analysis.

    KEY COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

    • Technical problem-solving and fault-finding ability

    • Hands-on mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills

    • Attention to detail in safety and compliance

    • Teamwork and leadership (supervising assistants)

    • Record-keeping and time management
