    Main Purpose of the Job

    The Kitchen Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the smooth, efficient operation of the kitchen, maintaining consistency across all menu items, and supporting the Catering Manager through inventory monitoring, stock control, and compliance with food production standards. The role also includes assisting with basic food preparation and supervising staff to ensure excellent service delivery.

    Minimum Education & Experience

    Essential:

    • Matric / Grade 12

    • Relevant tertiary qualification in Food & Beverage Services or Culinary Arts

    • Minimum 2 years’ progressive kitchen management experience

    • Computer literacy

    • Experience in stock control, ordering, and receiving

    • WorkSmart system knowledge (essential)

    Knowledge, Skills & Competencies

    • Strong knowledge of catering environments (fine dining to restaurant service)

    • Understanding of South African hospitality and food industry regulations

    • Good management and leadership skills

    • Strong communication skills

    • Solid computer literacy

    • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining quality and consistency

    Key Responsibilities

    Kitchen Operations & Production

    • Ensure smooth day-to-day operation of kitchen production.

    • Maintain consistency and quality in all menu items.

    • Assist with preparation and basic food production according to menu cycles.

    • Ensure correct portion control and proper food storage methods.

    • Maintain temperature records and report inconsistencies.

    Inventory & Cost Control

    • Monitor inventory levels and communicate stock needs to the Catering Manager.

    • Conduct and assist with regular stock takes.

    • Record and minimise food wastage.

    • Manage and analyse in-unit costs effectively.

    • Oversee ordering and receiving processes.

    Compliance & Administration

    • Complete required paperwork: wastage sheets, cleaning schedules, production records, etc.

    • Follow hygiene, safety, and industry regulations.

    • Ensure compliance with South African food laws and company standards.

    Team Support & Leadership

    • Train, coach, mentor, and support kitchen staff.

    • Assist colleagues when required and maintain a positive working environment.

    • Help deliver excellent service to customers and clients.
