A client in the animal feeds and animal nutrition industry is seeking a Quality Control Supervisor to oversee the quality of both raw materials and final products. This role plays a critical part in maintaining Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), ISO standards, and legislative compliance, while ensuring the company’s laboratory functions as a world-class testing facility. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, quality-driven, and experienced in feed or factory environments.
Job Summary
The Quality Control Supervisor will manage all quality assurance activities related to ingredient intake, in-process controls, and final product evaluations. The role requires strong knowledge of quality processes, testing equipment, health and safety legislation, ISO compliance, and AFMA/Act 36 requirements. The position ensures that production quality meets strict standards and that laboratory operations support accurate and reliable testing.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Assurance & Control
Ensure the quality of all raw materials used in production.
Verify the quality of final products before release.
Conduct inspections, sampling, and laboratory testing.
Maintain strict adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
Laboratory Management
Oversee daily laboratory operations.
Ensure the laboratory is maintained as a world-class testing facility.
Ensure testing equipment is used and maintained correctly.
Compliance & Systems
Maintain and improve compliance with ISO 9001:2008 and relevant SABS standards.
Ensure adherence to Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993).
Ensure compliance with AFMA guidelines and Act 36 of 1947.
Support ISO system management and documentation.
Production Support
Work closely with production teams to enforce quality processes.
Address non-conformance issues and implement corrective actions.
Assist in continuous improvement of quality processes.
Minimum Requirements
Education
National Diploma in Animal Nutrition (required).
Experience
3–5 years related experience in an animal feed manufacturing or factory environment.
Knowledge & Competencies
Strong understanding of:
— Quality processes in production environments
— Raw materials and product quality standards
— Testing and measurement equipment
— ISO 9001:2008, GMP, AFMA code, and Act 36 compliance
— Occupational Health and Safety Act (85 of 1993)Intermediate Excel skills, with proficiency in Word and email.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in testing and documentation.
Good communication and problem-solving skills.
