Purpose of the Role
The Programme Director is responsible for the academic leadership, administration, quality assurance, curriculum development, and operational management of the Genetics Programme. The role ensures that teaching, learning, research, and programme administration are aligned with university policies and academic standards while promoting continuous programme improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Programme Leadership and Management
- Provide overall leadership for the Genetics Programme.
- Ensure academic coherence across all programme modules.
- Develop and manage operational plans for the programme.
- Coordinate and oversee departmental circulation processes.
- Ensure programme activities comply with university governance, policies, and regulations.
Curriculum Development
- Develop new learning programmes in consultation with relevant stakeholders.
- Review and enhance existing academic programmes.
- Ensure programmes remain relevant and aligned with industry and academic requirements.
Academic Administration
- Manage programme-related academic administration.
- Provide academic advice regarding:
- Academic enquiries
- Curriculum amendments
- Yearbook updates
- Academic schedules
- Timetables
- Maintain effective programme documentation and records.
Teaching and Learning
- Oversee teaching and learning activities within the programme.
- Support student success and academic development.
- Ensure academic quality standards are maintained.
- Address programme-related student matters.
Research
- Conduct and maintain personal research activities.
- Promote and support scholarship within the programme.
- Contribute to the research culture of the department.
Marketing and Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve on faculty marketing committees when required.
- Assist in developing:
- Marketing pamphlets
- Promotional materials
- Programme information resources
- Support student recruitment and programme promotion initiatives.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must possess:
- A PhD (NQF Level 10) in Genetics or a closely related field.
- Permanent academic employment within the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences at UFS.
