Job Description
The UFS Business School is seeking a highly qualified academic professional in Responsible and Sustainable Management for appointment at:
- Senior Lecturer,
- Associate Professor, or
- Professor level.
The position focuses on:
- Sustainable business management
- Corporate governance
- ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance)
- Sustainable business models
- Corporate sustainability strategies
- Responsible management practices
The successful candidate will contribute to:
- Teaching and curriculum development
- Research and postgraduate supervision
- Sustainability-focused industry partnerships
- Executive education and consulting
- Strategic leadership within the Business School
The role emphasises sustainability knowledge creation, responsible management, and integration of sustainability practices into business education and organisational leadership.
Main Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
The successful candidate will:
- Lecture in:
- Business Management
- Business Administration
- Corporate Governance
- Sustainable Business Models and Practices
- Teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
- Develop future-focused sustainability curricula
- Create teaching materials, micro-credentials, and executive education content
Postgraduate Supervision
- Supervise:
- PGDip students
- MBA students
- Master’s students
- PhD students
- Support postgraduate research development
Research Responsibilities
The candidate will:
- Conduct high-quality sustainability research
- Research areas involving:
- Social sustainability
- Environmental sustainability
- Financial sustainability

- Publish in accredited national and international journals
- Participate in multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research projects
- Apply for research funding
For Professor level:

Minimum Requirements
Senior Lecturer Requirements
Applicants must have:
- A PhD (NQF Level 10) in:
- Business Management,
- Sustainability,
- Environmental Studies, or related field
- Teaching experience at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level
- Research publication record
- Conference presentation experience
- Experience supervising Master’s students
- Potential for NRF rating
- Industry experience as a sustainability practitioner
- Commitment to sustainability knowledge creation and industry engagement
Associate Professor Requirements
Applicants must additionally demonstrate:
- Experience as postgraduate external examiner
- Editorial board experience
- Ability to generate third-stream income/funding
- National research leadership
- NRF rating (C3 or equivalent) or eligibility
- Strong publication record
- Proven Master’s supervision experience
- Participation in scholarly societies or research agencies
Professor Requirements
Applicants must additionally demonstrate:
- Significant research portfolio over the last 8 years
- International research recognition
- Experience supervising doctoral students
- Editorial board membership of international journals
- Keynote conference presentation experience
- Strong public engagement and research dissemination
- Ability to secure external funding
