    The Superintendent (Earth Moving Equipment) is responsible for overseeing and coordinating maintenance, operations, and performance of earth-moving equipment within a plant and fleet environment. This role ensures the effective functioning, safety, and reliability of machinery used on-site by implementing planned maintenance strategies, supervising technical teams, and ensuring compliance with engineering and operational standards.

    The Superintendent plays a key leadership role, ensuring that earth-moving equipment is maintained to OEM standards, downtime is minimised, and productivity targets are achieved. This includes supervising artisans and maintenance teams, providing technical guidance, and ensuring adherence to safety, engineering, and organisational procedures. Strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to manage maintenance planning and execution are essential for success in this role.

     Key Responsibilities

    • Oversee maintenance, repairs, and performance of all earth-moving equipment within the fleet or plant.

    • Implement and manage planned maintenance schedules to ensure equipment reliability and availability.

    • Supervise and lead technical teams, artisans, and maintenance personnel.

    • Ensure compliance with engineering standards, safety regulations, and OEM specifications.

    • Monitor equipment condition, performance trends, and diagnose mechanical or operational issues.

    • Coordinate with operations and management to align maintenance activities with production requirements.

    • Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.

    • Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance fleet performance and reduce downtime.

    • Ensure adherence to company policies, maintenance procedures, and regulatory requirements.

     Minimum Requirements

    • Grade 12 (Matric).

    • MQA Artisan Trade Certificate (Earth Moving Equipment or relevant mechanical/engineering trade).

    • N4 Engineering Studies.

    • Supervisory Certificate.

    • Planned Maintenance Certificate (NQF Level 5).

    • MDP / Leadership Certificate (NQF Level 6).

    • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in a plant and fleet environment (earth-moving equipment experience essential).
