Job Purpose
To supply, construct, and install redesigned structural steel roofs for Fabrication Units 1 to 3 (Fab 1–3) at Lethabo Power Station. The project is aimed at ensuring structural integrity, safety, and compliance with Eskom’s quality and environmental standards.
Scope of Work
The appointed contractor will be required to:
Supply all structural steel materials required for the redesigned roofs
Construct and install the redesigned steel roof structures for Fab 1–3
Conduct all necessary preparatory work, including:
Scaffolding
Working at heights operations
Handling asbestos-containing materials (where applicable)
Demolition and removal of existing roof structures (if required)
Manage site safety, environmental compliance, and quality control throughout the project
Ensure adherence to Eskom’s engineering specifications and project standards
Technical Requirements
Compliance with ISO 9001 quality management standards
Implementation of:
Contract Quality Plan
Quality Control Plan
Risk Assessments and Method Statements
Safe execution of:
Working at heights
Asbestos handling and removal (if applicable)
Structural steel erection and welding
Compliance with Eskom’s:
Safety, Health & Environmental (SHE) policies
Quality Management System requirements
Management of subcontractors and suppliers to maintain quality and safety standards
Skills & Competency Requirements
The contractor must demonstrate:
Proven experience in structural steel roof construction and installation
Competence in working at heights in industrial environments
Experience with asbestos management and hazardous material handling
Strong project management capability
ISO 9001 certification or documented compliance with ISO standards
Ability to develop and implement:
Risk assessments
Method statements
Quality and safety plans
Knowledge of environmental regulations and incident reporting procedures
