Role Purpose
The Business Judgemental Credit Manager is responsible for evaluating, managing, and approving credit risk within an allocated commercial portfolio. The role ensures alignment with FNB’s risk appetite, credit mandates, and asset growth targets by applying sound judgement, credit frameworks, and methodologies while supporting internal stakeholders and delivering high-quality client outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Manage a credit portfolio within the bank’s risk appetite and asset growth targets
Assess annual reviews and ad-hoc credit applications within allocated mandate structures
Identify and manage credit risk at origination and throughout the credit lifecycle
Monitor daily excesses and ensure corrective action is taken
Perform covenant compliance monitoring (monthly, quarterly, bi-annual, and annual)
Conduct client visits jointly with frontline sales teams when required
Present credit applications to Credit Committees according to mandate levels
Perform secretarial duties for the Provincial Credit Committee, where required
Approve or recommend counterparty exposure across multiple products, including:
Working capital facilities
Term loans
Specialised finance products
Ensure efficient credit approval turnaround times to support client retention
Provide recommendations to higher mandate holders when required
Manage expired limits, early warning indicators, and portfolio risks proactively
Ensure workflow efficiency and compliance with agreed SLAs
Maintain compliance with legislative, regulatory, and audit requirements
Stay informed on local and global economic trends and regulatory changes
Provide expert credit risk advice to relevant stakeholders
Foster collaboration and strong stakeholder relationships across the business
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor of Commerce (Honours), CA(SA), or equivalent B-degree
2–5 years’ experience in Enterprise / Commercial Credit (preferred)
Strong exposure to judgemental credit assessment and portfolio risk management
Experience working within defined credit mandates and approval structures
