Job Purpose
The General Worker is responsible for supporting warehouse operations by managing stock movement, inventory control, dispatch activities, forklift operations, quality control, and warehouse administration. The role ensures that final products are received, stored, picked, and dispatched accurately while maintaining food safety, quality standards, and workplace safety.
Key Responsibilities
Warehouse Operations
- Assist with the movement and control of warehouse stock.
- Receive, store, pick, and dispatch final products.
- Ensure efficient warehouse operations and product flow.
- Support daily warehouse activities according to company procedures.
Start-Up and Shutdown Procedures
- Ensure warehouse housekeeping is completed before and after shifts.
- Verify scanners are operational and correctly signed in and out.
- Ensure required documentation is available for daily operations.
- Participate in shift handovers and communicate operational updates.
- Complete forklift inspection checklists at the start of each shift.
Inventory and Stock Control
- Conduct daily stock counts before warehouse operations begin.
- Participate in monthly stock counts with the finance department.
- Reconcile stock variances and discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate stock balances between physical stock and system records.
- Monitor and maintain minimum stock levels.
- Apply FIFO (First-In, First-Out) stock rotation principles.
Stock Receiving and Storage
- Coordinate stock transfers from production to warehouse.
- Verify:
- Product type
- Packaging quality
- Quantities received
- Pallet labels and barcodes
- Expiry dates
- Store products in designated warehouse locations.
- Ensure products are properly recorded in the warehouse management system.
Binning and Product Location Control
- Place stock in the correct warehouse bins.
- Scan pallet labels and bin barcodes accurately.
- Ensure products are registered correctly within the warehouse system.
- Maintain accurate location tracking of inventory.
Order Picking
- Pick products according to sales orders and system instructions.
- Verify pallet numbers and product information.
- Move picked stock to designated loading areas.
- Ensure orders are picked accurately and efficiently.
- Sign off picking documentation before loading.
Vehicle Loading and Dispatch
- Load customer orders accurately and on time.
- Verify:
- Product type
- Quantities
- Expiry dates
- Product quality
- Inspect vehicles before loading.
- Ensure loads are stable, secure, and compliant with transport requirements.
- Coordinate split loads for multiple customer deliveries.
- Support timely product dispatch.
Forklift Operations
- Perform daily forklift inspections.
- Operate forklifts safely according to company procedures.
- Transport stock between warehouse areas.
- Move products to designated storage and loading locations.
- Ensure safe operation at all times.
Quality Control and Food Safety
- Perform HACCP-related activities.
- Conduct quality inspections during receiving, storage, and dispatch.
- Monitor product condition and food safety compliance.
- Report deviations to supervisors.
- Ensure proper stock rotation and product protection.
- Participate in routine fumigation activities according to food safety requirements.
Administration and Reporting
- Complete daily warehouse control sheets and registers.
- Maintain warehouse records and documentation.
- Capture and report operational information accurately.
- Support daily warehouse administration tasks.
Communication and Teamwork
- Communicate product movements and stock status with internal customers.
- Liaise with warehouse, production, and management teams.
- Participate in shift handovers and operational meetings.
- Maintain positive working relationships across departments.
Housekeeping
- Maintain a clean, organised warehouse environment.
- Ensure cleaning equipment is available and used appropriately.
- Stack products safely and neatly.
- Repack damaged bags immediately.
- Keep work areas free from unnecessary clutter.
Health and Safety
- Follow company health and safety procedures.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Report hazards and safety concerns.
- Ensure safe stacking and storage of products.
- Promote safe forklift operation and warehouse practices.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- Valid Forklift Licence.
Experience
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in an agricultural environment.
- Experience in warehousing, logistics, or stock control will be advantageous.

- Willingness to work overtime when required.
