Job Overview
The Assistant Director: Labour Relations is responsible for managing and supporting labour relations matters within the NPA. The role focuses on dispute resolution, disciplinary and grievance management, collective bargaining, and ensuring compliance with labour legislation. The successful candidate will represent the NPA in formal labour processes and provide professional advice to management to promote sound employment relations and minimise labour disputes.
Job Description
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Represent the NPA in disciplinary hearings, conciliations, mediations, and arbitration proceedings
Provide support to legal counsel representing the NPA in external labour disputes
Facilitate the resolution of employee grievances and conduct investigations where required
Manage and facilitate disciplinary processes, including investigations
Proactively implement mechanisms to minimise labour disputes and promote healthy employment relations
Participate in collective bargaining processes and support the implementation of collective agreements
Prepare labour-related documentation and provide professional opinions on labour matters
Ensure compliance with grievance and disciplinary policies and procedures
Conduct research and provide advice on labour relations legislation and regulatory frameworks
Advise management on labour relations best practices and legal compliance
Requirements
Appropriate B Degree (NQF Level 7) or Three-year Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Labour Relations or equivalent
Studying towards an LLB Degree will be an added advantage
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Labour Relations
Experience in conciliations, mediations, and arbitration proceedings
Proven experience handling grievances, disciplinary hearings, and complaints
Strong dispute resolution skills
Sound knowledge of labour relations legislation and regulatory frameworks
Ability to act independently, professionally, and with accountability and credibility
Valid driver’s licence
