Job Overview
This role is responsible for budget planning, monitoring, and reporting within the provincial office. The Assistant Director ensures compliance with PFMA and Treasury Regulations, prepares accurate expenditure reports, monitors budgets, and supports programme managers in effective budget management.
Job Description
The Assistant Director facilitates the budget process, monitors departmental expenditures, ensures compliance with regulations, and prepares internal and external reports and presentations. The role also oversees administrative functions, workflow management, and staff development in the financial planning unit.
Key Responsibilities
Budget Planning & Monitoring

Facilitate and assist with compiling all budget planning and related documents
-
Ensure all budget processes comply with PFMA and Treasury Regulations

Monitor budgets continuously: expenditure trends, actual expenditure, commitments, deviations, and projections

Assist Programme Managers with effective management of allocated budgets

Control SCOA segments and BAS codes related to budgeting

Assist with shifting of funds (virements) and reporting thereof
Reporting & Analysis

Compile accurate and reliable expenditure reports

Prepare presentations for internal and external stakeholders
Staff Supervision & Administration

Perform administration functions for the section

Monitor performance of employees

Determine workflow requirements and training needs
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
-
Relevant tertiary qualification in Financial Management at NQF Level 6
Experience
-
Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in Public Sector Financial Administration
Knowledge & Skills
-
Understanding of PFMA, Treasury Regulations, and public sector budgeting
-
High-level computer literacy, especially Excel and PowerPoint
