    Job Overview

    The University of the Free State (UFS) is inviting applications for the position of Officer (Post Level 11) within the Student Finance Division. The successful candidate will play a key role in administering student financial aid, including loans, bursaries, NSFAS funding, and student allowances. The role also involves providing financial support services to students and stakeholders while ensuring compliance with institutional and NSFAS policies.

    This position is ideal for finance professionals with experience in financial administration who are passionate about supporting student success in a higher education environment.

    Key Responsibilities

    The successful candidate will be responsible for:

    • Administering, awarding, and disbursing student loans and bursaries.
    • Preparing and submitting templates and reports to the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS).
    • Calculating and adjusting bursary allocations.
    • Processing private accommodation and student transport applications.
    • Allocating book and meal allowances for eligible students.
    • Receiving, processing, and submitting student refund requests.
    • Performing general office administration and maintaining accurate financial records.
    • Attending and contributing to sectional, departmental, and quarterly staff meetings.
    • Sending SMS and email communications to students and stakeholders.
    • Attending NSFAS workshops and providing feedback to management and colleagues.
    • Responding to verbal and written enquiries from students, parents, guardians, landlords, and donors.
    • Assisting students with NSFAS applications and agreement signing.
    • Assisting with arrangements for donor visits and related activities.

    Minimum Requirements

    Applicants must have:

    • A Bachelor’s degree, Advanced Diploma, BTech degree, or Postgraduate Certificate (NQF Level 7) with Finance or Accounting as one of the major subjects.
    • An academic record must accompany the application.
    • A minimum of two (2) years of relevant financial experience.

    Recommended Qualifications and Experience

    Preference will be given to candidates with:

    • Knowledge of PeopleSoft.
    • Experience working in a higher education institution, particularly within Financial Aid.
    • Sound knowledge of Financial Aid regulations, policies, and NSFAS requirements.

    Salary and Benefits

    Annual Salary Package:

    • R464,881.91 – R585,070.51 per annum

    Salary is determined based on the available budget, qualifications, and relevant work experience.
