    The Officer: Academic Advisor will provide academic guidance, support, and wellness initiatives to students within the University of the Free State, focusing particularly on faculties such as Education, Theology, and Religion. The role involves working closely with faculty members, student support services, and the UFS Advising Network to enhance student success, retention, and graduation rates. This position also entails research, training, and contributing to the continuous improvement of academic advising practices.

    Responsibilities:

    • Provide academic advising during registration and throughout the academic year.

    • Assist prospective students with degree/programme selection.

    • Collaborate with faculties to deliver tailored academic advice and support.

    • Refer students to on-campus academic and support services.

    • Develop and present academic support and wellness initiatives.

    • Maintain accurate case management records and systematic communication with students.

    • Participate in research, training, and quality assurance in academic advising.

    • Supervise and support transition advisors, including developing work plans and training.

    • Contribute to publications, presentations, and conferences related to academic advising.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma/B.Tech/Postgraduate Certificate (NQF Level 7) in Social Sciences, Education, or related field.

    • Minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience in higher education and teaching/learning support.

    • Certification as a trained Academic Advisor (AAPD SLP).

    • Recommendations: Honours degree (NQF level 8) and 3 years’ academic advising experience.

    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain composure.

    • Analytical and logical problem-solving ability.

    • Proficiency in MS Office.

    • Collaborative team player with leadership potential.

    Benefits:

    • Annual remuneration: R447,323.31 – R562,750.48 (dependent on experience and qualifications).
