    Job Overview:

    The University of the Free State seeks a Lecturer in Old and New Testament Studies to teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules, conduct research, publish in peer-reviewed journals, supervise postgraduate students, and contribute to departmental leadership and scholarly engagement. The role emphasizes teaching New Testament, New Testament Greek, and interdisciplinary research in related fields.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Teaching & Curriculum Delivery

    • Present undergraduate and postgraduate modules in New Testament.

    • Teach undergraduate modules in New Testament Greek.

    • Supervise postgraduate students at Master’s and PhD levels.

    Research & Scholarship

    • Conduct research within the framework of New Testament studies and interdisciplinary areas.

    • Publish scientific papers in DHET-accredited journals.

    • Present research findings at academic conferences.

    • Source funding from national and international research organizations.

    Leadership & Administration

    • Participate in departmental and faculty-level administration and leadership.

    • Engage in scholarly activities such as research, community engagement, or in-service learning initiatives.

    Inherent Job Requirements:

    • PhD (NQF Level 10) in New Testament.

    • Completed 16–32 credits in Greek at third-year level (NQF 7), including at least 8–16 credits in New Testament Greek, Early Christian Literature, or Greek Rhetoric.

    • Proven experience in delivering conference presentations (poster or oral).

    • Evidence of manuscripts suitable for publication in DHET-accredited journals.

    • Strong academic record.

    Preferred Qualifications & Experience:

    • Graduate qualifications in Greek.

    • At least 1 year teaching experience in higher education.

    • Minimum of 2 published articles in accredited journals.

    • Competence in digital teaching tools and Learning Management Systems (e.g., Blackboard).
