Job Description
The SuperNumerary HPCSA Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting safe, high-quality blood donations in accordance with SANBS standards, operational procedures, and collection targets. The role involves donor screening, donor care, blood collection, clinic preparation and closure, administrative duties, and ensuring compliance with all blood collection and healthcare regulations.
The successful candidate will contribute to maintaining a positive donor experience while ensuring that all blood collection procedures are performed professionally, safely, and accurately.
Key Responsibilities
Blood Collection and Phlebotomy
- Perform blood collection procedures according to approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Ensure safe and high-quality blood collection from donors.
- Maintain professional standards during all phlebotomy procedures.
- Monitor donor wellbeing during and after blood donation.
Donor Registration and Assessment
- Register donors accurately and professionally.
- Verify donor information and documentation.
- Conduct basic physical assessments and health checks to determine donor suitability.
- Ensure compliance with donor eligibility requirements and blood donation regulations.
Donor Care and Customer Service
- Provide a professional, friendly, and supportive experience to donors.
- Address donor concerns and questions appropriately.
- Promote donor confidence and encourage repeat donations.
- Maintain high standards of customer service and professionalism.
Clinic Operations
- Assist with clinic preparation before blood collection sessions.
- Support clinic closure activities after collection sessions.
- Ensure equipment and supplies are prepared and available.
- Assist in achieving blood collection targets and operational objectives.
Administrative Duties
- Complete all required documentation accurately.
- Maintain donor records and collection information.
- Ensure compliance with SANBS reporting and administrative requirements.
- Support operational and record-keeping functions.
Operational Support
- Drive company vehicles when required for operational purposes.
- Assist with loading and off-loading equipment and supplies.
- Support mobile blood collection teams where necessary.
- Assist with transporting equipment and materials between collection sites.
Minimum Requirements
Professional Qualifications
- Qualified Phlebotomist.
- Current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
Certifications
- Valid CPR Certificate (must be maintained and renewed as required).
Driver’s Licence
- Valid South African Code 8 or Code 10 Driver’s Licence.
Experience and Availability
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, and flexible hours when required.
- Willingness to travel and support operational requirements.
- Ability to work in both fixed and mobile clinic environments.
