Job Description
The Oncology Pharmacist will be responsible for providing safe, accurate and professional patient care in accordance with Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) regulations and Medipost standards. The role focuses on oncology treatment preparation, chemotherapy compounding, stock management, quality assurance and compliance with relevant pharmacy, safety and company requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Review patient booking lists and confirm treatment availability for compounding.
- Receive and monitor stock against patient booking lists.
- Identify and escalate stock shortages, damages and discrepancies.
- Compound chemotherapy according to applicable SOPs, policies and chemo-specific guidelines.
- Monitor, select and charge consumables used for each patient.
- Process unused or cancelled treatments for credit within required SLAs.
- Comply with the company’s returns policy.
- Work according to GPP, Medipost standards and applicable ISO requirements.
- Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements and medical surveillance requirements.
- Assist with clinical trial processes as directed by the clinical trial leader.
- Liaise with Medipost Administrators regarding stock, credit returns and other stock-management matters.
- Assist practice staff with preparation for SAOC audits.
- Handle calls, emails and queries professionally, accurately and confidentially.
- Complete administrative duties and daily work according to unit requirements.
- Maintain accurate stock receiving and checking procedures.
- Support quality-assurance interventions, including QA, IPC and stock-return processes.
- Follow all relevant SOPs and company policies.
- Maintain high housekeeping standards.
- Comply with POPI regulations and work within the applicable scope of practice.
- Be available for overtime and emergencies when required, with applicable remuneration.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12.
- Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm) degree.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience as a pharmacist, including internship and community service.
- Experience in chemotherapy mixing/compounding.
- Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
- Sound knowledge of the Pharmacy Act.
Advantageous Qualifications & Experience
- Completed admixture course.
- Completed Good Clinical Practice (GCP) course.
